Men and women alike debate which sex is better, stronger. However, there is one thing that sets women apart which means we win any argument hands down. What is it you ask? We can grow another human being. FACT!
You may say that most animals can also grow a baby, which is true. However, the way our bodies prepare for this is phenomenal, preparing to not only grow a baby but protect it. Whilst not all women are able to grow a baby inside them they can all still be mothers. That is just as incredible.
Did you know that your blood volume increases by 50% when you are pregnant. This is because your body is growing another organ! Your placenta! Men can’t say they can do that can they! This amazing organ is what supports and protects your baby and allows you to safely carry them. It is much more resilient than people give it credit for.
As a mother you are responsible for your child with the help of your placenta you’ve got this! Your senses highten, your body changes, your anxiety gets slighter greater. This is all normal!
Parenthood is hard. If anyone tells you any different, frankly they are lying! You will make the bottle too hot, you will not wash your hair for a week or more, you will cry and you will sometimes feel like you can not carry on. Let me tell you, the fact you tried is all that matters. Your baby does not care you were not able to wash your hair or shower today. Your baby won’t care that you weren’t able to do the dishes or tidy the house. Your baby will care that you put them first, they were bathed, fed and played with. Their love is unconditional, they only see you not what you did not mange to get done today.
If you are raising a child alone believe me, that can feel like you are in a cycle that you can not break free from but one day the baby will sleep longer so you can shower. The baby will laugh more than they cry. Then you can step off that hamster wheel and start to be you again. Go for a walk, grab a coffee with other mums. Join a mother and baby group, have a girls night out! Being a mother is the hardest job in the world, the hours are long, the pay is rubbish and you don’t get any days off. But when you look at your child your heart warms and you realise you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Remember everyone, its not about getting it right its about being consistent and keep on trying!
